How to Buy, General Information

Few animals evoke fear and awe as readily as the mountian lion. Having spent time with these noble cats in captivity, and especially having been fortunate enough to glimpse one in the wild, I can attest to that fact. In this piece, however, fear and awe give way to "Awwwwwwwww." I have a long-standing realtionship with the great folks at Project Survival's Cat Haven, a non-profit big cat education center in the Sierra foothills that raises money for a number of grass roots feline conservation efforts around the globe. When I heard they had added a cougar cub to their collection, I moved fast to capture "Sam" when he was still tiny, cute, and spotted. I sketched him live on Facebook to raise funds to support the cat haven, and found him a compelling but less than cooperative model! Even playing with him at this young age, it was impossible to ignore his impressive and already burgeoning strenth, not to mention his naughty disposition, hence the title "The Troublemaker." Though I've not been back to visit Sam in person since shooting the reference for this study, I have been following him on social media and am amazed at how quickly he has transformed from an adorable ball of fur into an intimidating, mature mountian lion.
