How to buy
"Franklin Flies a Kite" is the result of a trip to Wildlife Associates, an eductational facility in Half Moon Bay, CA. I'd had the opportunity to see black-shouldered kites in the wild several times in the East Bay Area, once in Newark and twice in Livermore, and they had always struck me as especially beauitiful birds. My dream had always been to paint one as I observed it in the wild, hovering in mid air, waiting to dive bomb an unsuspecting prey item. Kites reeally do "hang" in the air like, well, kites. so such a composition jumped as as the obvious choice. But when I had a close encounter with this bird, cheekily named "Franklin," I was so taken by the beautiful color of his eyes, his sharp, scrutinizing gaze, and his loud, insistent shrieks, that this more intimate portrait took shape.
