How to buy
Inspired by a trip to Moss Beach near San Francisco, “Out of the Cradle” captures the cold beauty of the California Coastline and its abundant wildlife. Harbor Seals, Brown Pelicans, and Western Gulls are frequent visitors here, but I still feel uniquely privileged to observe them. Interestingly, this trip yeilded two paintings, the other being "The Sand Box Girl," (see Archive of Previous Work: Mammals) a portrait of a beautiful female sea lion that I observed just moments after encountering these harbor seals clustered along the reef. The title, "Out of the Cradle," refers to poet Walt Whitman’s eloquent metaphor for the ocean. Perhaps because all life began in the water, there is something about being in the presence of the raw power of the ocean that is at once wonderfully comforting and deeply humbling. Certainly the dramatic California Coastline is as good a place as any to come for this kind of reflection. I hope I have adequately communicated this sense of reverence in "Out of the Cradle."
