Great Spotted Woodpecker

How to buy

Color and pattern are two of my favorite things, and these common UK Woodpeckers have both in spades. I was very excited to see this bird on my last trip to England. I always dedicate as much of my down time on these trips as possible to staking out a spot in clear view of a friend’s birdfeeder and just seeing what shows up. My patience was rewarded this time with my first good reference photos of a bird I had only barely glimpsed on previous trips.

Because the abstract pattern of the bird is what excited me the most about the subject, I chose to paint it perched on a non-objective, curvilinear shape that highlights, rather than distracts from, these strong visual elements.

Welcome to the online home for artwork by Andrew Denman, a California –based, internationally recognized, award-winning contemporary wildlife artist.
