How to buy (General Information)
Long-Tailed Tits are my very favorite UK songbird. They are tiny, round, and precious, and tend to travel in small flocks that appear and disappear as if by magic. When I see them, no matter how many times I see them, I always feel as if I have been granted a privileged glance at something rare and wonderful. Unlike many birds that will hang out by a bird feeder in loose flocks and come and go all day long, Long-Tailed Tits tend to “hit and run.” Dozens of birds will alight upon a feeder at the same time and then leave just as suddenly. Though this drawing was assembled from hours of observation and multiple reference photos taken over several encounters at my mother-in-law’s backyard birdfeeder in Tewkesbury, it none-the-less very accurately describes the frenzied action and wild jumble of intersecting lines and angles that occurs when a knot of these birds descends. I have chosen to replace the feeder with a simple line to reduce the design of the piece down to its bare essentials. The whisper of color, seen only in that central line and the line framing the boundaries of the drawing, suggests the delicate mauves and shell pinks of these tiny little marvels.
