How to buy During my last visit to England I took a fascinating behind-the-scenes tour of Cotswold Farm Park. While I was primarily interested in photographing heritage livestock for reference, I fell unexpectedly and head-over-heels in love with this precious bunny. Few animals can rival a Netherlands Dwarf Rabbit in the cuteness department. I was fascinated by its wonderful round form, short little ears, beautiful, soft, and gorgeously colored fur, and of course it’s massive doe eyes. I have been interested for years in playing with pattern and repetition, and the use of polka-dots seemed appropriate for this round little bunny and for creating the playful tone I was looking for. Among the many reasons I am a stickler for only using my own photo reference, is that one never knows what part of an experience will become artistic fuel. Such is the case with the palette for this piece. While the lavender was clearly suggested by the cool greys of the rabbit’s own coloration, the shocking green, a color I’d never used before, just happened to be the wall color behind the rabbit when I encountered it in the Farm Park’s small animal barn. I tried several variations, but the longer I lived with this unlikely palette, the more appropriate it seemed. One must always be open to inspiration, no matter from what direction it comes or how random it may seem.
