How to buy (General Information)
Mute Swans epitomize elegance and grace in the animal world. I’ve enjoyed watching them drifting silently by as I wander about Sculpture by the Lakes, sometimes in the vicinity of Simon Gudgeon’s reductive and stylized swan sculptures themselves. I have come to associate them with this place, and wanted to portray one in my own signature style, juxtaposing the curvilinear shapes of the bird’s natural form with a hard and abstract environment, suggestive of the bird’s frequent appearance in made-made waterways. I decided to add color only for the bird’s bill, adding drama and an exclamatory quality to a bird which, for all its gentle grace, already seriously demands our attention.
