Denman Judges Junior Duck Stamp Contest

In late March, Andrew Denman was among a pannel of judges for the California Federal Junior Duck Stamp Design Contest. Denman and eight other judges representing diverse backgrounds ranging from ornitholgists and wildlife management specialists, to artists, were charged with the difficult task of evaluting over two thousand entries. After the state competition, Best of Shows from each state compete in Washington D.C. for top honors. This year's winner, Rebekah Nastav of Missouri, will see her painting of a Redhead grace the 2006-2007 Stamp. Since its inception in 1989 through a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the Junior Division of the popular Federal Duck Stamp Program has provided a dynamic arts cirriculum for teaching waterfowl and wetlands conservation to children from Kindergarten through High School. Denman himself won Best of Show for the state of California in 1995 for his portrayal of a pair of green-winged teals and has since gone on to guide many of his talented young students to first place honors.
